It works, but it is not very comfortable. You still have to plug it to the Wii controller, so youll have that hanging and/or around you. Get the Nyko Wii Wing Wireless Controller instead, it is $10 more, but worth the money.
Wish it was wireless but works well....

I bought the classic controller specifically to play donkey kong country on the virtual console. I like the setup on the controller but think it feels a bit cheap and that it might break if I drop it more than 2 feet. However, it works perfectly for the game. The one big thing I dont like about it is that the cord to hook up to the wii remote comes out from the bottom. This gets in the way much more than if the cord came out from the top like most controllers do. Other than that, and the fact that it is not wireless, this is a decent controller. Hopefully, Nintendo will come out with a wireless version soon!! (or something that keeps the wii remote and the classic controller together so its not as hard to pass to someone else if you only have one controller!)
    Fail!

Theres too many buttons on this for any downloadable wii game or Smash Bros. Brawl.

If youre looking for the best controller for any of these, go out NOW and do yourself a huge favor by buying an official Nintendo Gamecube Wavebird WIRELESS controller (this thing may be reviewed by some as "wireless", but the huge image with a WIRE sticking out of the controller because its plugged in a Wiimote is a big clue that its not wireless at all!). The bird is the best controller for a video game system, perhaps ever.

This things button-party and Wiimote wired hookup are huge detractions in my enjoyment of 99% of the games Ive ever played on the Wii. Nintendo should have been able to find a way to make this controller wireless 100% by using a similar power-up feature to the wiimotes, assigning the controller to players 1-4, and eliminating the need to dangle a controller somewhere.
    Weird button layout

The controller works like it should but it is annoying that it has to be plugged into the wii remote for it to work. It seems kind of expensive for a simple add-on that has to be plugged into another remote.

We played Super Mario Bros. with the controller only to find out that if you want to play two player you need two controllers (even though you switch off turns). One person uses the controller, the other uses the remote. Definitely not buying another one.

Also the button layout is a little weird. On the top there are four buttons in a row instead of two behind the others, like playstation. Also there is no trigger button underneath for N64 games. I understand it is a very "universal" controller but I think it could have been designed a little better.
    Please Dont Buy

I need to start off by saying that this is a review of the controller only and not the seller of it.

This Wii controller is based on a good premise, but it is plagued with design flaws. First the two thumb sticks are way too close together. A lot of the times I find myself smashing my thumbs together when they meet in the middle. The 4 buttons on the side are spaced awkwardly. The two horizontal buttons are further apart than the two vertical buttons are and this makes rapid presses between the four of them harder to get used to (not that it is impossible). The large trigger buttons at the top are the most functional/best thing on the controller. The resistance is good and it "clicks" smoothly. But the smaller trigger buttons on the inside are nothing short of terrible. The button press (or trigger pull) is far too long. It isnt even a variable button either it is just a toggle button, so it doesnt even matter if you pull it just slightly, because it only sends a signal when it is completely pressed down. I cant even explain the final button on the top middle part of the controller. It is absolutely useless. The far most annoying thing about this controller is the total lack of ergonomics. With Microsoft coming out with some of the most comfortable controllers, why is it that Nintendo felt that they should take a step in the opposite direction and actually make a controller that is comparable to the first controllers ever? The controller has a weak plastic feel and it is uncomfortable to play for extended periods of time (a carpal tunnel syndrome warning should be printed on the controller).

Take this seriously: if you need/want a standard-style controller for your Wii then just go with the previous Game Cube controller. It was a far better design and is even cheaper to buy than this newer (yet older design) model. It also works on the Nintendo Wii with no upgrade or parts necessary. Stay away from this controller!
