The concept of a wireless photo frame (EX811) has the potential to simplify the process of refreshing the pictures on a photo frame. Most people already upload pictures from a digital camera onto a computer. What if you could simply drag the pictures into a folder on your computer where the frame is "watching" via WiFi. Nice!! No fumbling with memory cards and waiting for the files to transfer. So whats the problem? Well apparently the picture frame couldnt be made smart enough to remember what computer and share drive you want it to view when you power on the frame. I mean it remembers your network name and encryption keys but they couldnt afford one extra bit of data to say "start" here. Instead it reads pictures from internal memory at start-up. So Ill just leave it on all the time. Right? Wrong!! You see it grabs all the picture at the start of the slideshow and it doesnt appear to ever go back for more. In addition, it struggles if the folder has a large number of photos. They couldnt grab some at random periodically. It restarts on its own periodically when it drops its network connection. After mashing on the remote for a couple of hours, I decided that it would be easier and more reliable to fumble with a memory card. In conclussion, my advice is to skip the WiFi features for now. Eventually a manufacturer will focus on how people will try to use the frame. For now they seem content to just stamp "WiFi" on the front of the box.

Limited ways to organize photos

I have my pictures organzied in folders like Cruise, Christmas 2007. The ditital picture frame will only display one folder then you have to manually select the next folder. The only way to display groups of pictures is to rename them numerically. 1, 2, 3, Other wise the pictures are organized alpha by file name. So A christmas tree 2007 plays first and then A good time at sea 2008 plays next. This really annoys me. You put pictures in albums for a reason, why cant this frame display them that way?

I purchased this product for my wife for Christmas. The 128MB internal drive turned out to be a 15MB flash drive, so I was unable to load but a few pics on it. There was also 2 red pixels on the screen. This product was defective out of the box and had the wrong drive in it. I have yet to hear back from 47th Street Photo on this and its been a week. Needless to say, Im not happy.

Bought for inlaws...8 inch size makes for great viewing from a distance or close up. Instructions were a bit weak, but once I figured out the process and sequence, it is pretty easy to add and delete photos. Appears to hold about 50-60 photos total.

The picture is great. I resized all of my pictures using a photoshop script so they wouldnt be too big. It is short on instructions and the interface is difficult to use, but nice looking, but after its set up, its a nice frame. This frame is 800x600 resolution and has decent transitions. It does not support SDHD cards (usually over 4GB). It seems to freak out for me when the image count exceeds 1600 images on an SD card, so more than 2GB of data probably wouldnt work anyways. It has good viewing angle from the sides and top, but if youre looking up at it at all, the picture goes dark. (we have it sitting on top of something about 4-5 feet high, and when we sit on the couch we cant see the image well.) Id say you need to have a 30 degree or less viewing angle from the bottom. I dont know if this is a limitation of all digital frames.

Im not technically savvy, and I was thrilled at how easy it was to load photos onto this frame and ship it off as a gift to my Mom. She opened it while on the phone with me, I had her plug it in and turn it on, and the phone went silent..."Mom? Ma, are you there?" She was weeping with joy as pictures she hadnt seen in years appeared in gorgeous clarity on the screen before her. You can load directly from your PC or to several types of inexpensive memory cards. Experiment with 5 or 6 photos first to get your orientation right. The remote is small and not completely reliable, but you shouldnt need it for much once your picture show is running. Biggest surprise: the gloss-black frame was a huge advantage over other frames that contrast with the viewing area. If most of your photos are vertical, but you slip in a few horizontal, youll have bands of black above and below the horizontal pic (or vice versa, if most of your images are horizontal). Some frames contrast with the black stripes, making for a choppy look. On this frame, the dead space around some pics blends seamlessly into the glossy black frame, making every picture look great. Were buying 2 more for home and office!

I got one of these for my wife for Christmas, and it was the most successful gift Ive ever given her in 27 years of marriage, I think.

The trick is that I bypassed the 128MB of internal memory and just put 2GB of photos of her grand-daughter and pics from our travels on a CompactFlash card, using the card slot in our PC, and used that instead. That way on Christmas morning she unwrapped it, plugged it in, and right off the bat was looking at pics of her granddaughter.

The 800x600 resolution isnt the equal of even an ordinary laptop (usually 1024 x 768 minimum)--but its not a computer, remember. And its resolution is good enough to show my pics taken with a 5MP camera satisfactorily. I think anything less than 800x600 would be a problem. However, we use an 800x600 projector for slide shows at our dive club and resolution works even on a projection screen, so dont think this is going to look fuzzy or pixelated (unless your pics are already).

I did try accessing the 128 internal memory by hooking the picture frame up to a computer with a USB cable--available for a few bucks from any electronics store. I was surprised to discover that it uses USB 1.0--about a tenth as fast as the USB 2.0 every computer has used for years. But youre not going to be using this as an external drive anyway, so thats not a serious complaint. I use Windows XP Home as my operating system and had none of the problems Vista users report.

The workaround for Vista users is simple: just put your pics on a memory card like I did. The picture frame takes a variety of cards in a variety of capacities. If your PC lacks card slots--supplied with most new PCs--you can buy a cheap card reader that plugs into a USB port. I can get 2GB Compactflash cards locally for $10, readers for the same or less.

It also runs the kinds of movies a digital camera makes. I was able to run movies from two kinds of cameras (Sony and Olympus). I did notice that the sound seemed to stop after a while--must be filling up the buffer. But for the typical little clips shot by digital cameras it works fine, and having videos of her granddaughter in a picture frame on my wifes desk as work yielded a big wow factor.

I hardly needed the manual, but I know computers, and so does my wife.

At work she discovered she could switch it from the default shuffle mode (random display of pics) to strict sequential display, which she wanted. She was also able to change from the random sequencing mode (pixelation, fade in/fade out, dissolve etc.) to whichever type she preferred.

Note that a number of other reviewers didnt realize you could alter the default settings (and you cant alter them on some other kinds of digital picture frames).

So this is a flexible device produced in the smallest size that really makes sense (that is, 8"), since this format has the same form factor as most digital camera pictures.

Like another reviewer, I saw no sign of alternate frame colors, as was implied by the manual. But the black frame it came with works for my wife, and I like it as well.

These digital picture frames let us put picture albums on peoples desks and walls. Theyre a great idea, and the prices and quality have finally reached a point where most people can use them. I picked this Opteka after reading hundreds of reader reviews and product descriptions on Amazon, and it was delivered really quickly as well, even though it was before Christmas and I only asked for regular shipping.

Plus this combines the natural desire of guys like me to buy electronic gizmos for my wife with her natural desire to get things that come from the heart. I took a majority of the pics on the frame, and all the pics show people and places and events that are precious to her.

I gave this item 3 stars because I chose to order the cheaper version of Tripods. The 60" length works good and the "quick release" is a great addition. The only problem I have is that, although it is stable enough for my use, I was disappointed that the leg lock broke off too easily. The legs do have double-locks on each leg, so it is still usable. But, like I said in the beginning, I could have spent a lot more money for a more professional one and I chose not to. All in all, I got my moneys worth.

This tripod is just fine for my needs, which are not too heavy duty. The clamps that enable you to extend the legs are plastic and seem a little flimsy, but again, I am not using this constantly or in the field. It is fine for my small digital and also holds my larger, much heavier Cannon digital, but the Cannon does seem a little heavy for it.

I bought this off of Amazon because they were cheaper than B&H. Put the card into my nikon d90 and got about 32 pictures out of it until it just stopped working the camera and my computer said the card was no longer readable. Never buying Transcend again.

I got this in a kit with a Gorilla-Pod, and I really liked it because it was so compact. I never used the spray, but the brush was great for getting rid of dust quickly in the field. I like to travel light and convenient, so this was perfect.

Unfortunately, the glue on the brush head is both cheap and applies directly to plastic (a major no-no). After about 30 trips this thing broke down on me. Thats not bad, except most photographers wont see this last for more than 2 months.

This is yet another nifty tool for photographers on the go who dont want to be bogged down with a lot of extra cleaning products.

Granted, it doesnt clean lens surfaces and other surfaces as thoroughly as more complete cleaning systems, but its compact 2-in-1 cleaning tools make it a must to carry in your gadget bag.

Although Ive never been overly impressed with most of these doodads, the Nikon Lens Pens patented cleaning solution and applicator provide a quick and effective method for removing most dust, smears and small debris that lodges on the lens filters surface and in and around small, difficult to reach places around the cameras external working mechanisms.

The Lens Pen goes with me everywhere it keeps the lens clear of dust when Im shooting, so my proofs dont end up with spots. At the end of the day, when I pack up my gear, I use a complete cleaning system for the lenses and to wipe down camera mechanisms before packing it up.
